WhatsApp may be king of instant messaging these days with over 1.2 billion active users, but as a company they are really terrible when it comes to the documentation of new features, especially in the beta version of their app.
In recent times they have added quite a few nifty features, but without a changelog telling users exactly what was added, it is often left to luck to figure out what is new.
In the most recent update of their beta version (version 2.17.164), the company added the ability of being able to pin three (3) of your favourite chats to the top of your WhatsApp homescreen (your other chats will naturally be placed under the pinned ones).
Here is how you pin a chat in WhatsApp:
- Long press on the chat you want to pin to select it.
- The new pin icon will appear in the action bar next to the delete, mute, and archive functions – tap the icon.
- Once pinned, you will notice the pin icon on the right of the chat. Remember a pinned chat remains at the top of the list regardless of the recency of the last message compared to your other chats.
- To unpin a chat simply long press to select the pinned chat and tap the unpin icon on the action bar.
Unfortunately the feature is currently only available in the beta version of WhatsApp, so if you are one who usually wait for your updates from the Google Play Store and is not part of the official beta program, you can either wait for the update of the stable version or grab the latest beta apk here (the feature is present from version 2.17.162).
